It is not only a key blending component in automotive and aviation gasoline for boosting octane number and preventing engine knocking but also the standard substance used in octane rating test engines, mixed with n-heptane (octane number 0), to calibrate fuel anti-knock properties. In the petrochemical industry, it is a crucial component of high-octane gasoline (e.g., 95#, 98#). In the chemical sector, isooctane serves as an excellent non-polar solvent for extraction, reaction media, and cleaning. Furthermore, its high-purity grade is widely used as a solvent and standard in gas chromatography analysis, and as a starting material for organic synthesis (e.g., production of isooctanol, isooctanoic acid).
